We’re going to court in Saskatchewan for the climate!

Please donate below to our legal fund:

This winter, the Council of Canadians, including two of our Saskatchewan chapters, will be intervening in Saskatchewan’s case against the federal carbon pricing plan. We are involved in this important case alongside a collective of seven other social and environmental justice organizations.

Can you pitch in to help us make the strongest showing possible at the Court of Appeals? We are asking the Saskatchewan Court of Appeals to uphold the federal government's’ plan as constitutional. Urgent action to respond to global warming must happen now. Inadequate climate action is a violation of Canadian Charter rights and international law. The federal government has clear responsibility and jurisdiction to act.

This court case is crucial. A ruling allowing a provincial government to opt out of a federal climate plan would set a legal precedent we cannot afford if we want to stop the increasing impacts of global warming. Ontario, New Brunswick, and Manitoba are all pursuing similar court strategies. A decisive precedent for federal climate action in the Saskatchewan case could have ripple effects across the country.
