Petition: Tell Trudeau to stop the Trans Mountain pipeline

No Kinder Morgan Buyout Prince Albert

Dear Prime Minister Trudeau,

I oppose the Canadian government’s approval of the Trans Mountain pipeline project and the use of $4.5 billion of public funds to pay for it. I further oppose plans to expand the pipeline and almost triple its capacity to carry bitumen from Alberta’s tar sands to B.C.’s fragile coast, which is expected to push the price tag to more than $15 billion.

I urge you to stop sinking money into pushing a pipeline that, if built, would break your promises to phase out fossil fuel subsidies, respect Indigenous rights, uphold our climate commitments under the Paris Agreement, steward our waterways, and protect good jobs in fisheries and tourism.

A new report reveals the Trans Mountain pipeline is a bad economic choice and the benefits of the project have been grossly overstated.

This is public money that would be far better spent to create green jobs and climate solutions, end the drinking water crisis in First Nations, implement a national pharmacare plan, provide affordable housing, cut tuition costs or expand public transit.

The world’s leading scientists are warning that we have just 11 years to take bold action if humanity is to avoid a climate catastrophe and the Canadian government has passed a resolution declaring a climate emergency. Allowing the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project is the wrong decision.

Signed,
